The central Iowa tourism region is defined as the twenty or twenty five counties that surround Polk County. Polk County is where Des Moines, the state capital is located. Naturally it is the biggest population center in the area but some of the smaller centers have just as much draw for individual events. Take the hot air balloon festival in Indianola. People come from far and near to witness the sky full of colorful balloons floating in unison competing for prizes and honors in the various competitions. And when the do the night light display where all the balloons are light up after dark makes it a sight to see.
