Understanding Thai culture – When it comes to money
The western society holds highly the ideal of independence and freedom. However the same cannot be said when it comes to the Thai society. Now don’t be assuming that there is no such thing as independence in Thai society! The fact is simply that there are certain social obligations that people here are certainly expected fulfill. One of these obligations is that the man is expected to show support to both the girl and her family by making generous donations. Yes, the family definitely does play a crucial role into making decisions well after the couple is happily married. Thus be prepared to help the family financially from time to time. However also remember that many families are now lightening upto all the old traditions and so are no longer demand anything after the marriage. In fact many of the practices are seen at face value only.
