The Section 529 Plans not being subject to taxes was originally set to expire in 2010 because of the sunset provision. However, do to the act that was passed by President Bush, the Pension Protection Act of 2006, this is now an official part of the 529 plans. This means that more and more people are going to start using the section 529 plans to save for college. There has been a huge increase in the number of people using these section 529 plans. We expected to see these numbers go back down in 2010, but now that is not going to happen. This is good for anyone that is looking for a good way to save money for college.
